Google is reportedly preparing to launch a full colour range of the Google Nexus 5, according to a leaked Google Play store listing.

Apple has confirmed it will work with authorities to help investigate the death of a Chinese woman who was reportedly electrocuted whilst using her charging iPhone 5.


Speaking this morning, Apple has stated that following the death of Ma Ailun on Thursday, it will look to investigate any faults with the smartphone which could have led to the incident. The company failed to address any potential problems with the iPhone 5.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of this tragic incident and offer our condolences to the Ma family,” an official spokesperson for the iPad mini manufacturer stated. “We will fully investigate and cooperate with authorities in this matter."

Ma, a 23-year-old flight attendant with China Southern Airlines who hailed from the western Xinjiang region of China, is said to have died after receiving an electric shock whilst attempting to answer a call on her charging iPhone 5. China’s Xinhua news agency has quote police officers in the region as confirming the reports.

Following the accident, Ma’s sister sent out a Tweet stating the woman had collapsed and died after using her iPhone 5 while it charged. She urged other smartphone owners to be careful when using their own devices. It is not currently known if Ma was using the official Apple charger with her phone or a third party imitation.

The saddening news comes as an Abu Dhabi based woman claims her Samsung Galaxy S4 caught fire while on charge.

“I cannot explain to you my extreme frustration, disappointment and extreme fear when I found my brand new Samsung Galaxy S4 burning at the charger connection to the phone,” S4 owner Sarah Shurrub said in a complaint to Samsung following the alleged incident.

She added: “The phone was found burning, while charging. It’s only thanks to God that I woke up in the middle of the night and controlled the burning before it could cause damage to my home and family.”

A petition asking Google to bring Android 4.4 KitKat to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus already has over 15,000 signatures.

The HTC One 2 leaks are coming thick and fast as yet more claimed HTC One 2 pictures appear showing off the upcoming phone.


With a mass of recent HTC One 2 rumours all suggesting the phone will feature a brushed metal design largely similar to that found on last year’s original HTC One offering, the new leaks have backed up further teased images that have surfaced in recent days.

According to the latest leaked shots, the inbound HTC One 2 will sport a body markedly similar to last year’s model, albeit with a larger 5-inch display that slots in thanks in large to a heavily reduced bezel.

Further freeing up space for a bigger screen, the phone’s formerly soft-touch Android controls have once again been teased as making way for new, digital, on-screen options.

Around back there are a few further changes, with a dual-lens camera being introduced to aid the phone’s focusing and metering capabilities. The second, smaller lens looks set to be located directly above the primary, Ultrapixel sensor.

Although not shown in the leaked images, recent HTC One 2 rumours have claimed the phone will be powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, with the 5-inch, 1080p Full HD to line up alongside Google’s latest Android 4.4 KitKat OS.

Despite MWC 2014 being just weeks away and offering a potential high-profile launch platform for the phone, it has been suggested that the HTC One 2 release date will be held separately in mid-March.

Far from the only high-profile phone to be set to make an appearance in the coming weeks, the eagerly awaited Samsung Galaxy S5 is believed to be heading for a formal unveiling on February 24.

Despite the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date being just a matter of weeks away, the Korean manufacturer has refreshed its outgoing flagship phone as the Samsung Galaxy S4 Black Edition is officially launched.


Formally unveiled alongside a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Black Edition, the revised S4 has now been confirmed for launch in the UK after being unveiled to Russian consumers late last month.

Despite landing as a dedicated new model edition, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Black Edition has few differences from the standard flagship phone which launched last April. Samsung has claimed the marginally altered handset is part of its "commitment to deliver innovative technology with premium design choices."

Ditching the gloss plastic rear that has been the subject of much criticism, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Black Edition features an equally unappealing soft-touch, faux leather rear similar to that found on the oversized and stylus hosting Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Aside from the leather effect rear, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Black Edition’s only other notable difference is a suite of eight, fittingly dark themed wallpapers and lock screens.

Like the standard S4 offering, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Black Edition runs a 5-inch, 1080p Full HD display alongside a 1.9GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

With a 13-megapixel rear-mounted camera and integrated 4G and NFC connectivity options, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Black Edition specs sheet is rounded off by a 2600mAh Lithium-Ion battery at Google’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS.

With only Russian pricing having been confirmed at this point, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Black Edition will set wannabe owners back 22,990 roubles (£400). Samsung has stated that UK release dates and pricing will follow "in due course."
